50 #Cent, whose debut album Get Rich Or #Die  Tryin'was co-executive produced by #Eminem, recently spoke about his Shady Records boss and his ability to step away from music.<br />
"By not having interest in a lot of other areas, [Eminem] was able to take a step back from these records," 50 Cent said in an interview with Complex. "He just goes away and then he’d just watch [other artists] and then figures out what to do next. But [he's] just not as active as all these other folks. Everything else that [he's asked to] be involved in, he says no. He says, 'No,' more than he says, 'Hi.' The circle’s so tight...It speaks to the culture when people see themselves in [your] light, [your] greatness."<br />

During the interview, 50 also praised @Eminem for his influence on Hip Hop.<br />
"When they look at Em and they see themselves, it’s because they feel him," 50 said. "You see these other guys come out of nowhere almost, have huge hits. I like Eminem. I think Hip Hop grew faster in different areas because of the success of his projects and there’s no other rappers doing other than whatever’s comfortable to them [despite Em's influence]. They’ll name Top 5 MCs and not have his name on it when none of them have music that #performed that well."<br />

Eminem and Dr. Dre executive produced 50 Cent's debut album, 2003's Get Rich Or Die Tryin'. Em, Dre and 50 Cent co-executive produced Fif's 2005 album, The #Massacre.<br />
In November, 50 Cent compared Eminem to  his grandparents.<br />
"My career wouldn't even exist, I wouldn't even be talking to you if it wasn't for Em," 50 Cent said. "It's amazing that later in your life you could find someone that means so much to the comfort in your actual life. My grandparents were that for me before Em."<br />

Katema Revives Fight against Online Media<br />
The phobia for online media has continued to surface with Information Minister Joseph Katema calling for ways to stifle the influence of the new media.<br />
Katema said that it was important to find ways of limiting the influence of the online media as they allegedly attacked defenceless citizens.<br />
He said that online media was being used for the purpose of bringing down defenceless citizens.<br />
<br />
The #Patriotic Front has waged a vicious war against the only media that they don’t control by employing all imaginable tactics including blocking websites and arresting journalists they suspect to be contributors to the online media.<br />
With all access granted to them in the two government dailies and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation the PF has also been angling to grab the online space that is one of the few outlets for independent views.<br />

“However concern about the rampant abuse of the social @networks by this I am referring to online publications whereby some people who have turned this important #communication tool into a platform of insults and all sorts of malicious statements against defenceless citizens,” said Katema.<br />
“This is unfortunate and unproductive and it is my hope that a forum like this one provides a fertile platform for finding a solution to this challenge.”<br />

Sudan bans building of Churches

@Sudan, a country of 38 million citizens (as at 2013), has only known peace for 11years (1972 – 1983) in her 58 years of gaining independence from the United Kingdom and Egypt. Of the 47 years of conflict, two civil wars have taken place and they are responsible for the loss of two and half million lives in a total of 40 years. The cause: religion.<br />
Despite seceding from the #Christian South in 2011, the North has continued in its persecution of Christians and President Omar al-Bashir has not hidden his intention to make Sudan an Islamic state, even if it means ‘atrocious’ persecutions of Christians. Though a strict version of sharia law is in effect, the constitution still recognizes #religious freedom; provided you don’t convert from Islam, meaning there’s a systemic violation of the freedom of religion.<br />
A prominent case in May, 2014, caused international outrage as a Sudanese court sentenced to death Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag death for apostasy (simply put – converting from Islam to Christianity). Meriam, 27, was raised a Christian despite her father being Muslim; and was detained in prison where she was delivered of her second child, a daughter. Her plight shed light on some of the practices of the Sudanese #government; and she was finally able to leave the country, following her release from prison, after negotiations made by the Italian government.<br />

Police in Uganda say they have seized large amounts of explosives during raids on suspected al-Shabab Militants.

Authorities said the terrorist cell was planning to carry out imminent attacks in the capital Kampala.<br />
Nineteen people have been arrested and are being interrogated about their intentions, a police spokesman said.<br />

@Uganda has been on high alert since al-Shabab's leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane, was killed in a US air strike in Somalia earlier this month.<br />
Last week, the US embassy in Kampala warned of possible revenge attacks against US targets in response to the air strike on 2 September.<br />
On Thuraday, the US lifted its warnings after saying it believed the "immediate threat of an al-Shabab attack has been effectively countered".<br />

But Ugandan Information #Minister Rose Namayanja urged the public to "remain vigilant" as authorities continue investigating the planned attack.<br />
"The operation is still going on," Ms Namayanja said. "We just want to ensure that we exhaust all the leads so that there are no more terrorist cells."<br />
Police said the suspected al-Shabab cell had been planning to carry out attacks in Kampala and other towns over the weekend.<br />
Uganda has been targeted by al-Shabab militants because its troops are part of the AU force in Somalia<br />
"We are interrogating 19 to see what leads we get to help expand the investigation," police spokesman Fred Enanga told reporters.<br />
He said the suspects had been found with "explosive materials related to acts of terror" and their intentions "were very, very clear."<br />

The BBC's Catherine Byaruhanga says the suspects are believed to be foreigners.<br />
Ugandan troops are part of the African Union force in Somalia, known as Amisom, that is fighting al-Shabab militants.<br />
The government in Kampala said it had provided the US with key intelligence regarding Godane's movements ahead of the US strike.<br />
Al-Shabab has vowed to retaliate for the death of its leader.<br />
The Islamist group, which wants to overthrow the UN-backed government in Somalia, has since named Ahmad Umar as its new leader.<br />
Its fighters were behind twin blasts that killed 76 football fans who were watching the World Cup final in Kampala in July 2010.<br />
At the time, Godane said the attack was retribution for Uganda's deployment of troops as part of the AU force in Somalia.<br />

High drug trafficking hinders prosperous development in West Africa.

But a less publicized, highly lucrative cocaine trade has been quietly making its way to West Africa, turning the region into a key transit hub for drug shipments en route to Europe. The lure of lucrative cocaine profits is posing a grave threat to security and public health in an impoverished region that until now has never faced a serious drug problem.<br />

Today cocaine is being smuggled through every country in the region, according to a UNODC report released in October 2008. The report revealed at least 50 tons of cocaine from Latin America are entering West Africa every year, en route to Europe where the drug sells for almost US$ 2 billion on the streets. The corrupting influence of such profits – which exceed the national budgets of most West African countries – is threatening to create Africa’s first “narco-states,” where corruption infiltrates the highest levels of government and the economy depends largely on drug profits.<br />
<br />
“The threat is spreading rapidly throughout the region, turning West Africa’s Gold Coast into the Coke Coast,” warns Antonio Maria Costa, #UNODC’s Executive Director. “This is more than a drug problem – it is a threat to public health and #security.”<br />
<br />
Among the most gravely affected countries is Guinea-Bissau, one of the world’s poorest nations where the cocaine trade is swamping a tiny export economy. In 2006,Guinea-Bissau’s gross domestic product (GDP) of US$ 304 million equalled the wholesale value of six tons of cocaine in Europe. Prized by drug traffickers for its unguarded coastline, Guinea-Bissau is saddled with high-level corruption and a near-total absence of the rule of law, allowing cocaine gangs to operate with impunity.<br />
<br />
Most of the cocaine is entering Africa through Guinea-Bissau and Ghana and is then smuggled to Europe by boat or commercial flights destined for France, the United Kingdom and Spain, the main entry point of cocaine into Europe, according to seizure data. Upon arrival, the cocaine is distributed predominantly by West African criminal networks throughout Europe.<br />

The UN is spearheading efforts to strengthen crime information networks among countries of origin, transit and destination, and improve communications among West African airports to combat drug trafficking. UNODC is working closely with the Economic Community of West African States (@ECOWAS), which has adopted a regional plan to take aggressive action against cocaine trafficking.<br />
Cocaine seizures in the region have doubled every year for the past three years, from 1,323 kilos in 2005 to 6,548 kilos in 2007, according to UNODC.  But seizures are beginning to drop as a result of disruptions in the supply route achieved by UN, national and regional efforts.<br />
<br />
The UN has appealed for continued international assistance to bolster police forces and provide the expertise and equipment to fight criminal networks, prevent money laundering and bring drug traffickers to justice.<br />

*.According to UNODC’s 2008 #World Drug Report, the majority of air couriers come from Guinea, Mali, Nigeria, and Senegal. Guinea was the embarkation point for 221 couriers detected since 2006, the single largest national total in the region.<br />

*.In October 2008, the Economic Community of West African States (@ECOWAS) adopted a political declaration and regional action plan to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in West Africa. Backed by the UN Office for West Africa, Interpol, and the UN Departments of Political Affairs and Peacekeeping Operations, the ECOWAS regional action plan aims to build national and regional capacities in the areas of law enforcement, forensics, intelligence, border management and money-laundering.<br />

*.The West Africa Coast Initiative is being launched in the summer of 2009 to combat organized crime and drug trafficking wreaking havoc in the region where US$ 1 billion worth of cocaine transits through annually. The West Africa Coast Initiative is a partnership of the UNODC, the UN Office for West Africa (UNOWA), the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and the Department of Political Affairs (DPA), along with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Interpol.<br />

Nigeria ‘ll be among 10 countries contributing to global poverty in 2030 —World Bank

@LAGOS—The World Bank has said that #Nigeria will be one of 10 countries that, in the year 2030, will remain as the main contributors to global poverty.<br />
It said that the scenario requires that in Nigeria, currently contributing heavily to global poverty numbers, growth rates need to rise, but not to a degree that is entirely unimaginable.<br />
It stated that in Nigeria, the growth rate needs to pick up from 2.3 to 3.2 per cent growth in real term. According to the report Nigeria will contribute another 61.5 million poor people to the global total.<br />
According to the World Bank, much more work needs to be done to end poverty and close the gap in living standards between those in the bottom 40 per cent and the top 60 per cent of the population around the world.<br />

The report details, for the first time, the World Bank Group’s twin goals of ending extreme poverty by 2030 and promoting shared prosperity, measured as income growth of the bottom 40 per cent. GMR 2014/2015 continues to monitor progress on the Millennium Development Goals, which inspired the WBG twin goals. “The world has made great progress in the last quarter-century in reducing extreme poverty – it was cut by a stunning two-thirds, and now we have the opportunity to end poverty in less than a generation,” said World Bank Group President, Jim Yong Kim.<br />
“But we will not finish the job unless we find ways to reduce inequality, which stubbornly persists all over the world. This vision of a more equal world means we must find ways to spread wealth to the billions who have almost nothing.”<br />

The report notes that much success has been achieved in reducing extreme #poverty – those living on less than a $1.25 a day.<br />
However, the number of poor remains $unacceptably high, at just over 1 billion people (14 per cent of the world population) in 2011, compared with 1.2 billion (19 per cent of the world population) in 2008.<br />
Forecasts in the report show that poverty will remain stubbornly high in the South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa regions, where an estimated 377 million of the world’s 412 million poor will likely reside in 2030.”<br />

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State on Thursday said those who protested against him at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday were not from the states but “miscreants” hired in Abuja.<br />

.He told State House correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan that it was funny that some elders of the state hired a few people and accused him of imposition.<br />
Some members of the PDP from the state led by a former Governor, Obong Victor Attah, had accused Akpabio of hoarding the party’s register in his office.<br />
They said the governor was doing  this in order to doctor it in favour of his candidate for the office of the governor during the party’s forthcoming primaries.<br />

. The aggrieved members of the  party were at the meeting of the National Integration Committee of the party, which met at Legacy Building, Abuja, on Wednesday.<br />

. But the @governor said the  #protesting elders belonged to a minute segment of the state’s population.<br />

. He said the hall in which the  protesters were received could not even contain 50 people.<br />
He said, “This is a very minute  segment of the Akwa Ibom population, very few that you can count on your finger tips. Some elders who were able to hire some miscreants in Abuja to carry placards at Legacy House.<br />

. “And those people who carried the  placards are not from Akwa Ibom. My people had the opportunity to interview some of them. The meeting that was held with elders was not an open meeting.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
. “Even the hall the meeting was held could not take up to 50 people. So you can imagine somebody going to hire a few miscreants and stand outside and talk about imposition, that was funny.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
. “As the #Governor of Akwa Ibom  State, the PDP in my state is intact. Not just because of my performance as the governor of the state, also because of the fact that we had a properly elected executive through congress that was confirmed by the National Convention. And that has never been an issue.”<br />

. Akpabio said those who sponsored the hired crowed also recognised the party leadership and had a few days earlier gone with their candidates to consult the party leadership at the state level.<br />

. He also said the statutes of the  elders must be questioned.<br />

 The United Nations lauded today’s awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to two human rights #activists, saying the winners had received well-deserved recognition for championing children’s rights around the world.<br />
Pakistan’s Malala Yousafzai, an ardent campaigner for a girl’s right to an education, and India’s Kailash Satyarthi, an activist fighting child labour, are the joint recipients of this year’s prize.<br />
Announcing the decision in Oslo, Norway, the Nobel judges cited the winners’ “struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.”<br />
In a statementreleased today, Secretary- GeneralBan Ki-moon praised Ms. Yousafzai’s resilience in confronting extremists who sought to keep young girls out of school with “courage and determination,” adding that “Malala” had shown what terrorists fear most – “a girl with a book.”<br />
“Malala is a brave and gentle advocate of peace who through the simple act of going to school became a global teacher,” the Secretary-General said.<br />
“The United Nations will continue to stand with her against extremism and for the right of girls everywhere to be free of violence, to go to school and to enjoy their right to an education.”<br />
Ms. Yousafzai has become a regular presence at the United Nations since she was nearly killed in a targeted attack for lobbying for a girl’s right to an education. In 2013, the Secretary-General dubbed 12 July – Ms. Yousafzai’s birthday – as “Malala Day.”<br />

<br />
Mr. Ban reserved similar accolades for Mr. Satyarthi, whose “heroic work” had pushed the world away from denial about abusive child labour to “acknowledgement, awareness and action,” raising public awareness, mobilizing opinion leaders, and galvanizing society.<br />
“Kailash Satyarthi has been at the forefront of a worldwide movement for justice, global education and a better life for millions of children trapped in exploitative child labour,” he stated, citing Mr. Satyarthi’s tireless “leadership, commitment and personal sacrifice over many decades.”<br />
“He has #successfully brought together the key elements for success in the fight against the worst forms of child labour – moral outrage, personal commitment, and societal engagement,” concluded Mr. Ban.<br />
In a separate statement, the UN Children’s Fund’s ( UNICEF) applauded the “well-deserved honour” for the two activists and observed that the timing could not be more appropriate as 2014 also marked the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.<br />
“This award will be an inspiration to all the millions of unnamed and unknown children around the world who battle silently in their own lives for the right to an education and the right to be heard and protected,” the agency added.</div>
